Christmas Spirits — Winter 2013

Winter 2013 brings Creature Features‘ follow-up to its popular October Shadows art exhibit with Christmas Spirits, a Yuletide-themed gallery show encompassing every imaginative facet of the holidays.

The show will showcase a variety of work in every media, from paintings to sculptures to folk art and even film. Whether it’s the ancient spiritual origins of the Birth of Christ, the whimsy of Santa Claus, the ghostly manifestations of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, or even the pop culture icons from Rankin/Bass’ Rudolph, The Red-Nosed Reindeer or Chuck Jones’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas, this event promises to be just as dazzling as our annual celebration of Halloween.

Call for entries begin November 1st, 2012!

Coming in 2013: Creature Features celebrates the 50th anniversary of The Outer Limits with an art gallery exhibit inspired by the groundbreaking TV anthology from the 1960s.

Titled There is Nothing Wrong With Your Television Set, the event with showcase artists from the fields of fine art, makeup & visual FX, animation and comics who will reinterpret and pay homage to memorable episodes, characters and symbols from the series including: “The Sixth Finger,” “The Galaxy Being,” “The Zanti Misfits,” “The Architects of Fear” and many more.

The Outer Limits, created by Leslie Stevens and produced by Joseph Stefano, ran on ABC for three seasons from 1963 to 1965. The unique one-hour anthology format, coupled with stellar writing and the show’s signature creatures, would attract stars and stars-to-be like: David McCallum, Sally Kellerman, Robert Culp, Adam West, Robert Duvall and future sci-fi superstar, William Shatner.

The show would also feature the work of many talented writers, including noted screenwriter Robert Towne and SF novelist Harlan Ellison, who penned two of the series most beloved episodes: “Demon with a Glass Hand” and “Soldier.”

There is Nothing Wrong With Your Television Set will open in Spring, 2013 with the official call for entries being announced in October, 2012.

Creature Features presents October Shadows 2012, our fifth annual celebration of Halloween in art.

This year’s exhibit opens on Saturday, October 13th at the art gallery inside of the Mountain View Mausoleum, 2300 N. Marengo Avenue in Altadena, CA 91001 and showcases the following prestigious group of artists from the worlds of fine art, comics, film, TV and animation.

It’s time to break out the silver bullets as Creature Features presents the 25th Anniversary Reunion screening of The Monster Squad — Coming Soon!

Written and directed by Fred Dekker (Night of the Creeps) with co-writer Shane Black (Lethal Weapon), this epic monster rally crosses The Little Rascals with the Universal Monsters, pitting Hollywood’s most famous quintet of creatures against a feisty group of neighborhood kids. The results showcase top-notch monster recreations by Stan Winston Studios, stellar visual FX by BossFilm, a rip-roaring music score by Bruce Broughton, and some of the most memorable lines of the 1980s (“Creature stole my Twinkie!”).

The screening will be followed by a panel discussion with director Fred Dekker, makeup FX artists Alec Gillis, Tom Woodruff, and Shannon Shea, and more special guests to be announced!*

A rare display of original props, production artwork and merchandising will also be on display during the event!
