Growing up in a household where both parents were artists exposed Bill Basso to all types of art from a very young age. Combining equal amounts of horror movie magazines and comic books with Renaissance or Eastern European art, for example, helped shape Bill’s artistic sensibilities.
Bill graduated in 1984 from the Parsons School of Design in New York where he recieved a BFA in illustration. After graduating however, he became interested in special make-up effects for the film industry and eventually relocated from New Jersey to Glendale, California were he currently resides. He has contributed his artistry to many well known films. Edward Scissorhands, Terminator Two, Jurassic Park and Interview with the Vampire among them.
For the past several years, Bill has been focused on developing his personal artistic vision, creating mixed media works as well as taking on freelance projects. His award winning work has been featured in the fantasy art annual Spectrum. October Shadows, the image shown above, will be featured in Spectrum 14, as the gold award winner in the institutional category. Available in bookstores Fall 2007.
